Tidewater Oil Porcelain SignTidewater oil single-sided porcelain sign. Heavy single-sided porcelain sign has two-color graphics, red and white, reading tidewater oil company along with the company's familiar flying 'a' logo in the center. This distinctive capital 'a' with wings attached was used by the tidewater oil company during its many years of operation in the middle part of the 20th century. Sign has thick porcelain on heavy gauge metal plate iwth factory holes for hanging. The sign measures approximately 21 tall by 36 wide and most likely dates back to the 1940's to the late 1950's. The sign shows light usage with only a slight evidence of rust near the mounting holes. The olny other evidence of usage is an approx. 1 round sized nick ot the porcelain around the sign's mount hole that is confined to the upper left quadrant as seen in the photograph. The left side nick / ding to teh porcelain is approx. 1 1/2 by 2 in diameter. Otherwise there is no other damage and this sign maintains approximately 99% of its original sheen and finish. In my opinion, this sign would rate a strong 9 9.5 in overall condition on a 1 to 10 scale. I've hda this sign for approx. 17 years having bought it from a long tiem porcelain sign and neon sign collector in martinez, california in 1992. He had been collecting signs and advertising for about 40 plus years so it could have been obtained anytime between his years of collecting. |
